Gerber Juice is Europe’s largest dedicated fruit juice manufacturer operating from a major production and distribution site in Somerset. The majority of the 800-strong workforce are shopfloor employees and until CW worked with us to launch our company newsletter 10 years ago, there was very little formal internal communication taking place.
A traditional printed newsletter was, and remains, the most effective channel to reach our people and our objectives are to recognise their contribution and success, engage with them and share business and market information and to encourage and empower them to feed back their news and views.
It was clear to us that we needed a physical communication as our target audience are production workers and they do not have access to computers at work. It needed to be straightforward, straight talking and accessible, and we were confident that CW would deliver this for us with their years of experience helping many other large and very well-known companies with their internal communications.
When I took on responsibility for co-ordinating Juicy News, I was really concerned about the time commitment I would need to give. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised how quick and easy it has been. We just give CW the bare bones and their journalists come in and get on with it. Their experience means they get really involved and under the skin of the business and bring us stories and ideas too which is definitely one of the strengths of our relationship and makes life much simpler for me.
CW has definitely met and exceeded our expectations. We’ve never missed a deadline, Juicy News has developed and improved over the years, reader feedback continues to be positive and we also use some of their other services such as photography and PR which has really helped us to raise our profile in the regional and trade press.
Winning a top award for best company newsletter in an Institute of Internal Communication competition earlier this year was the icing on the cake – and independent confirmation that we are obviously doing something right!
